To Whom Responsible: Director of Special Services
For What Responsible: To assist the teacher to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- 60 hours of college credit, sub certificate or credential from a passing score on the Paraprofessional Praxis exam.
- Possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and necessary physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Confer with teacher to derive information about student(s)
- May work with student(s) on a one-on-one basis by providing them undivided attention
- Implement behavioral plans to meet students’ needs for social, educational, cognitive, mental and physical development
- Respond quickly to emergency situations such as injuries or medical issues
- Observe and evaluate student(s) and provide feedback to parents and teachers
- Assist student(s) with carrying out classroom activities
- Implement age appropriate activities and monitor safety throughout
- Help in maintaining a clean and organized classroom
- Assist with toileting needs
- Maintain appropriate classroom discipline
- Ensure that student(s) retain information by repeating information constantly and practicing patience
- Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips
- Assist the student(s) at lunch, recess, and all “special classes”
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student(s) as is expected of the teacher
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills
- Adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies
- Other duties as required or assigned
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
