Position Overview
We’re hiring an experienced Excavator/Dozer Operator with utility trenching experience to join our sewer and water crew.
This is a full-time, hands-on position operating real heavy iron — not warehouse or plant machinery. You’ll run equipment that moves dirt, not pallets.
Responsibilities
- Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, and skid steers for trenching, backfill, grading, and site prep
- Excavate and set trench boxes to proper depth and grade for sanitary/storm/water installations
- Load/unload trucks, handle spoils, remove concrete/asphalt, and assist with material staging
- Perform daily inspections and light preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
- Work safely alongside pipe layers, laborers, and foremen to complete projects on time
Qualifications
- 3 years of underground utility experience operating heavy equipment (sanitary, storm, or water)
- Proficient in trench work — able to dig to grade and work in tight areas safely
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of machine operation and maintenance
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (CDL preferred)
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in Michigan weather
- Safety-minded — OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or trench safety certs a plus
