POSITION PURPOSE : Manages school library containing general and specialized materials for use by students, faculty, and administrative staff. Provides each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Operates and supervises the library to which assigned.
- Selects, orders, catalogs, and classifies the general collections and special collections of technical books, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, and other materials.
- Furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules, and services.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teacher and students on use of the system.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and informs the teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires.
- Assists faculty by making library materials available to supplement the instructional program.
- Assist students with research problems while providing educational experiences in the area of library resources. Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Prepares and administers the library budget.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Keys information into computer to store or search for selected material.
- Trains other workers engaged in locating, filing, or copying selected material.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Skills in human relations.
- Ability to plan and organize; good work habits.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, and school staff.
- Other qualifications that the School Board may require.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds and lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds frequently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
