The role of Dermatology Medical Assistant supports our Dermatologist and the Lead Dermatology Medical Assistant, working closely with the Clinic Manager/Director of Operations to provide both clinical and administrative support & operations and drive business in our Northbrook location; moving to Deerfield in late 2026. In this role you will bridge the gap between patients and the medical professionals, ensuring efficient & timely clinic operations while assisting them with specialized skin treatments.
Core Responsibilities
The Dermatology Medical Assistant role handles a diverse range of tasks tailored to skin care, ranging from routine medical assisting to surgical support.
Clinical Duties
- Procedure Assistance: Setting up for and assisting with specialized procedures such as biopsies (shave, punch), excisions, surgery, and cryotherapy
- Cosmetic Support: Assisting with aesthetic treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, and laser therapies
- Patient Intake: Rooming patients, measuring vital signs (blood pressure, temperature), and documenting detailed medical histories and current skin concerns
- Wound Care: Performing suture removal, applying dressings, and administering biologic or steroid injections as directed by the physician
- Specimen Handling: Labeling and preparing skin samples or biopsies for transport to pathology labs
- Patient Education: Instructing patients on post-operative wound care, medication use, and preventative skin health
Administrative Duties
- Scribing: Accurately documenting patient encounters, diagnoses, and treatment plans directly into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems during the exam
- Clinic Management: Scheduling follow-up appointments, managing pharmacy callbacks, and handling prior authorizations for specialized medications
- Inventory & Sterilization: Sanitizing exam rooms and ensuring instruments are properly sterilized and stocked
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: All candidates must have at least two years’ experience in a Dermatology Medical Assistant role. Candidates not possessing two years in a Dermatology Medical Assistant role will not be considered for this role.
- Education: High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Key Skills:
· Medical Terminology: Proficiency in skin-specific anatomy and terminology
· EHR Proficiency: Familiarity with specialized dermatology software
· Phlebotomy: Experience in drawing blood for diagnostic testing
The starting salary for this position is $23-$26/hr. dependent upon experience.
