The Jail-Based Competency Restoration Program Coordinator will provide recovery-related services.  The employee will implement the principles of trauma-informed care including cultural sensitivity in all areas of service delivery.   The JBCR Program Coordinator works as a clinician, program manager, and as a liaison with the local criminal justice system.  The JBCR Program Coordinator provides guidance, direction, and support to all assigned staff, utilizes sound clinical judgment and is available to provide consultation, directions, debriefing, clinical staffing and support to staff.  The JBCR Program Coordinator conducts, provides assessment of strengths, preferences, functional impairments and symptoms of psychiatric and/or co-occurring disorder(s) at regular intervals to ensure optimal and personalized services.   The JBCR Coordinator will deliver therapeutic, evidence-based and best practices interventions, including but not limited to skills training through psychoeducation and patient education strategies, individual and/or group services, and crisis services with linkages to crisis resources as needed.   As the liaison with the criminal justice system, the JBCR Program Coordinator will coordinate with the District Attorney's office and other criminal justice agencies including, but not limited to local, county, and state law enforcement agencies.  The employee will promote activities to meet the JBCR program goal of reducing the number of individuals determined to be incompetent to stand trial with mental illness, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders.  The JBCR Program Coordinator will have a collaborative approach working closely with judges, attorneys, and enforcement agencies.  The JBCR Program Coordinator will work closely with LMHA staff to include Jail Diversion, Rural Assertive Community Treatment (RACT), Supported Housing, Continuity of Care and Crisis programs.  The JBCR Program Coordinator will also work in a collaborative effort with established JBCR programs in the state to build on established success.  Effective implementation of strategies to promote program success is imperative.

The JBCR Program Coordinator will also provide intake and screening services for individuals already engaged in the legal system to expedite their access to available ongoing mental health care.   Many of these referrals will be provided by the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) program for individuals on probation/parole with the intent of providing access to care to avoid further complications with the legal system that could impact jails, state hospitals, and forensic cases.

 

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or other Human Resources fields

 

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Valid Texas Driver's license

LCSW or LPC licensed in Texas

Must be insurable on the Center's insurance and maintain insurability

Will obtain CPR/First Aid and Prevention Management and Aggressive Behavior training after hiring

Will obtain Illness Management and Recovery certification during orientation

 

 

EXPERIENCED REQUIRED

  • Will obtain Illness Management and Recovery certification during orientation
  • At least two (2) years of experience in direct care of individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), including experience in an acute care setting
  • At least (2) years of experience participating as a member of a treatment team that develops and monitors treatment   plans for individuals with chronic and serious mental illness 
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in the criminal justice field and knowledge about community resources and social services is preferred 
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Ability to show compassion and patience to individuals presenting for services
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional working relations with co-workers, customers, external providers and stakeholders

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Considerable knowledge of community organization and administration and general principles of public and human relations
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with database programs and proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work proficiently in a potentially hectic environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness and professionalism
  • Ability to build strong community relationships

  • Ability to self-monitor production and quality with minimal assistance
  • Ability to interact compassionately and in a trauma-informed manner with clients, providing encouragement for participation in treatment recovery and adherence to treatment regimen

  • Coordinate Mental Health Screening and Intake Assessments
  • Documentation - Comply with Medicaid and Health and Human Services documentation standards
  • Jail-Based Competency Program - Will follow all requirements of Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 46B

 

SALARY: $4,145 - $5,083  Monthly

SHIFT:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., plus varied hours.
