Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Residential Director, the Art Teacher Tutor provides supplemental education to qualified students individually or in small groups. Tutors assess student needs, design an appropriate program, and aid with school assignments, endeavoring always to teach at an understandable level aligned with the needs and capabilities of each child.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the assigned school district teacher in the classroom by closely monitoring the whereabouts, work and behavior of students in class; following teacher directions; maintaining classroom/office appearances and helping students learn and understand school assignments.
- Provides individualized supplemental lessons, interactions and recommendations for bettering the education and unique needs of each child.
- Motivates students to perform the best of their abilities using rewards that highlight positive behaviors and progress.
- Addresses negative behaviors as prescribed by program directives making sure students are counseled in a way that provides insight to their issue/problem along with initiating safe physical management and supervision that protects the safety and security of others.
- Assists in record keeping and filing of student scores/grades/work; prepares individualized student monthly progress reports and documents all incidents and physical contacts.
- Follows all written and verbal guidelines concerning program routines.
- Employee is responsible for timely submission of hours worked following Agency policy.
Other Requirements:
- Able to proficiently use typical office equipment, including but not limited to, personal computers with a basic knowledge of a variety of software applications, fax machines, copiers/scanners, calculators and phones.
- Maintains required state and federal clearances and/or credentials.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills and experience working with children and teens.
- Attends regular staff meetings.
- Meets regulatory training requirements.
- Participates in educational field trips with students.

Qualifications:
- Required Education Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Experience:
- Associates degree in Secondary Education or Special Education;
- One year experience preferably at a high school level;
- General knowledge of subject areas tutoring such as math, reading, science, social studies or any other fields where mentoring.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a group of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and prove to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to talk and listen for more than 2/3 of the day.
- Ability to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for less than 1/3 of the day.
- Ability to climb/balance or taste/smell is not required.
- Able to lift items up to 10 pounds.
- Requires close, clear vision at 20 inches or less with the ability to read a computer screen or books.
Compensation:
$13-$16/hour
Work Schedule:
1 day a week for 3 hours.
