We are seeking a Junior Mainframe Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing mainframe database environments. This role involves performance monitoring, database administration, modernization efforts, and ensuring data integrity and security in alignment with organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and modify database performance for applications accessing the database.
- Conduct proactive performance tuning and optimizations to enhance database efficiency.
- Review and analyze new Database Management System (DBMS) releases to assess business and technical impacts.
- Perform physical and logical database administration to support Application Sustain Services.
- Analyze database activity to identify potential issues, prevent incidents, and recommend performance improvements.
- Conduct database testing to ensure performance aligns with expected results.
- Set up and maintain test and production databases.
- Propose database changes to simplify monitoring and administrative efforts.
- Document and implement database changes following Change Management protocols.
- Assist in incident management related to database operations.
- Build and maintain database structures based on detailed design specifications.
- Support system implementation and production environments.
- Implement and manage database changes as needed.
- Maintain and test backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity.
- Enforce security measures to protect sensitive government data.
- Participate in modernization efforts, including working with Oracle Database Architecture and Microsoft Server OS.
- Work with Mainframe Database Administration Z/OS2.5 / 2.6 and DB2 databases.
- Support database lifecycle management in production and development environments.
- Collaborate on JavaScript and REST API integrations.
- Demonstrate familiarity with SCRUM and Agile methodologies.
- Utilize Azure DevOps Toolset for development and deployment.
- Write and execute SQL queries and batch job processing (JCL).
- Communicate clearly and concisely with cross-functional teams.
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with Mainframe Database Administration (Z/OS2.5 / 2.6, DB2).
- Strong knowledge of SQL and JCL.
- Understanding of Oracle Database Architecture & Microsoft Server OS (for modernization efforts).
- Experience with JavaScript, REST APIs, and batch job scheduling.
- Familiarity with SCRUM, Agile methodology, and Azure DevOps Toolset.
- Prior experience in a government or defense database environment.
- Hands-on experience with database security measures and compliance frameworks.
Salary : $100,000 - $110,000
