What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales Engineer position at Comus Group?
As a Sales Engineer at Comus, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering requirements and commercial execution. You will partner directly with OEM design teams, technical buyers, and field distributors to identify application challenges and engineer tailored component solutions.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role requiring heavy field engagement, frequent client visits, and a strong blend of technical problem-solving and sales closing capability.
- Technical Discovery & Consultative Sales: Meet directly with engineering and procurement teams at target OEMs to uncover application specs, environmental constraints, and product requirements.
- Solution Engineering: Recommend standard or custom Comus switches, sensors, and relays that fit OEM specs; partner with internal engineering teams in New Jersey to deliver custom prototypes and proofs of concept (POCs).
- New Business Development: Proactively identify, target, and win new OEM accounts while expanding Comus share of wallet within existing strategic accounts.
- Technical Product Demonstrations: Deliver compelling technical presentations, application tear-downs, and product demonstrations to engineering leaders.
- Territory & Travel Management: Manage field travel schedule efficiently to maintain high face-to-face cadence with key customers (up to 50%–70% travel).
- RFP & Spec Responses: Lead responses to technical RFIs/RFPs, working with production and design engineers to provide accurate quotes and feasibility assessments.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME), or equivalent technical/sales experience.
- Experience: 3–7 years of experience as a Sales Engineer, Application Engineer, or Technical Field Sales Specialist within the electronic components, sensors, switches, relays, or industrial automation space.
- OEM Direct Selling: Proven track record of selling custom engineered components directly to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
- Travel Readiness: Willingness and ability to travel 50%–70% to customer sites, industry trade shows, and manufacturing facilities.
- Communication: Ability to communicate fluently with both high-level design engineers (schematics, electrical specs) and executive procurement leaders (pricing, lead times, supply chain).
- Experience working with switches, reed technology, hermetic sealing, or sensory hardware.
- Existing contacts/relationships within industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, or medical device OEMs.
- Proficiency with CAD viewing software.
