Job Summary
The Batch Operations Analyst will manage, monitor, and troubleshoot mainframe and distributed systems batch workloads in a 24/7 production control environment. This role requires weekend work (Saturday & Sunday) and occasional rotational holiday coverage. The analyst will use BMC Control-M/Enterprise Manager to oversee batch schedules, identify abends, coordinate with support teams, and ensure SLA adherence. All incidents must be documented through ServiceNow.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, monitor, and analyze batch workloads for both mainframe and distributed/client-server applications.
- Use BMC Control-M/EM to schedule, monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot batch jobs.
- Identify and resolve common abends using JCL and escalate critical issues to support teams or management.
- Track and document incidents and tasks in ServiceNow.
- Communicate clearly with programmers, support staff, and leadership when issues arise.
- Monitor system alerts using tools such as Nagios, IP Monitor, and Tivoli.
- Ensure SLA compliance and initiate escalation procedures when required.
Mandatory Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with BMC Control-M and Enterprise Manager.
- Knowledge of managing batch workloads on AJF for both mainframe and client/server applications.
- Expertise in identifying and resolving abends using JCL.
- Ability to review alert/shout messages and determine severity.
- Proficiency with TSO/ISPF for job analysis.
- Ability to escalate issues appropriately when SLA risk is identified.
- Basic understanding of system monitoring tools (Nagios, IP Monitor, Tivoli).
Desired / Preferred Skills
- Advanced expertise in batch workload management using Control-M and EM.
- Strong ability to identify and fix common abends using JCL.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow Incident & Task management.
- Working knowledge of system tools such as TSO/ISPF, JCL, Control-M/EM, and similar schedulers.
- Experience recognizing server-related issues via monitoring tools.
