Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer Technician is responsible for supporting CNC machining operations through process development, programming, tooling selection, setup optimization, and production support. This role provides technical leadership to machinists and production personnel while ensuring quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on CNC machining experience, advanced CAD/CAM programming capabilities, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes for complex precision components.


Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming & Process Development

  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and manufacturing requirements to develop machining processes.
  • Create and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software and manual programming techniques as needed.
  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, fixtures, and work-holding methods for production.
  • Support process development for milling, turning, drilling, deburring, polishing, and related machining operations.
  • Implement process improvements focused on cycle time reduction, quality enhancement, and operational efficiency.
  • Update and maintain setup sheets, tooling documentation, process instructions, and manufacturing records.
  • Support engineering change implementation and revise manufacturing processes accordingly.
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI), prototype development, and manufacturing feasibility reviews.
  • Maintain program revision control and ensure latest production programs are properly archived.

Production Support & Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and support to machinists, operators, and production staff.
  • Lead by example in following standard operating procedures and safe manufacturing practices.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and quality-related issues with minimal supervision.
  • Monitor setup and production performance to ensure production targets are achieved.
  • Verify actual setup and cycle times against estimates and update production records as required.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and operations teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best manufacturing practices.

Quality & Inspection

  • Perform first article inspections and validate machining accuracy against blueprint requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment to verify dimensional compliance.
  • Maintain awareness of cosmetic and dimensional defects including burrs, surface finish, and out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Support Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities and process monitoring.
  • Ensure non-conforming material is properly identified and segregated.
  • Accurately document inspection and production data throughout manufacturing operations.

Workplace Organization & Safety

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas including machines, tooling stations, inspection benches, and surrounding production areas.
  • Ensure tooling, materials, and production equipment are stored appropriately.
  • Support a culture of accountability, organization, and operational discipline throughout the manufacturing area.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in a precision manufacturing or CNC machining environment.
  • Strong experience supporting high-mix, low-to-medium volume production environments preferred.
  • Combination of advanced technical training and equivalent industry experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced CNC programming and machining knowledge.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidWorks CAM, CAMWorks, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining, setup optimization, and process troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Knowledge of machining various materials including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, copper alloys, and plastics.
  • Familiarity with SPC methods, quality systems, and inspection techniques.
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems and production documentation preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout a manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or tooling up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and operate standard manufacturing equipment safely.
  • Close visual attention required for inspection and precision work.


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and machine shop environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Overtime and weekend support may be required based on production schedules and business needs.

Salary : $95,000 - $120,000
