Electrical Engineer II
Contract: 1-year contract with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $48/hr
Location: Remote, with preference for candidates located near:
- Greensburg, PA
- Akron, OH
- Reading, PA
Position Overview
As part of the Communications Engineering team, this role supports the architecture, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of communication systems and infrastructure. The position focuses on ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance for RF communication systems, leased lines, circuit networks, and associated field communications infrastructure, including power and environmental support systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, implement, and support RF communication systems, leased line services, and network circuits
- Support infrastructure systems including DC power, backup generators, and environmental controls
- Provide technical support for deployment of Field Area Network devices and ongoing operations
- Maintain network and communications documentation in the company’s document management system
- Manage communications requests and support asset mapping within GIS platforms
- Deliver high-performance, cost-effective, and highly available communication solutions
- Participate in installations, upgrades, and enhancements of communication technologies
- Support operational performance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of network systems
- Ensure compliance with technical standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget for assigned work
- Coordinate activities across internal teams and external stakeholders
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technologies and evolving business requirements
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, policies, standards, and procedures (advanced level)
Principal Accountabilities
- Support communication technologies delivering voice, video, and data services
- Ensure high reliability and availability of communication systems
- Collaborate across IT and engineering teams to meet business needs
- Follow and enforce change management processes
- Contribute to process documentation and governance standards
- Support Field Area Network Asset Replacement Program (ARP) communication efforts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Networking, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with network circuit design, platform administration, and infrastructure support
- Knowledge of data transport systems for devices such as RTUs, routers, switches, and reclosers (wireless and fiber)
- Familiarity with in-building cellular signal boosters and network extenders
- Understanding of environmental systems (HVAC, AC/DC power, batteries, generators)
- Experience with telecommunications expense management and circuit inventory systems
- Proficiency with technical documentation tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe Acrobat)
- Experience with GIS, CAD, or drafting tools
- Knowledge of document management systems (e.g., FileNet or similar)
- Familiarity with network monitoring and performance tracking tools
- Understanding of project management concepts and tools
- Exposure to telephony systems (PBX, ACD, etc.)
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
- Basic experience using test equipment (e.g., multimeters, spectrum analyzers, antenna analyzers, RF wattmeters)
