Job Summary
The Environmental Engineer II ensures compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, permits, and consent decrees at the Radford, Virginia site. This role prepares reports, manages hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs, interfaces with regulatory agencies, and supports environmental audits, inspections, and training. The engineer plays a critical role in maintaining environmental standards in a large chemical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, consent decrees, and permits
- Prepare and submit reports including Biennial Hazardous Waste, Tier II, and TRI Form R
- Interface with operations to support hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
- Prepare permit applications and modifications as required
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and understanding of requirements
- Participate in audits and inspections
- Collect samples, complete chains of custody, and ensure proper storage
- Provide environmental training as needed
- Perform compliance inspections and support special assignments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or Civil Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of related work experience or equivalent
- Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced chemical manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental reporting/monitoring software
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in state environmental reporting, permit compliance, and hazardous waste management
- Experience with universal and non-hazardous waste management
- Interaction with VDEQ personnel and familiarity with Virginia regulations
- Certifications such as CHMM, EIT/EI, or PE licensure
- Bonus skills: Wastewater experience, permit writing, and government compliance
