Job Summary
The Controls Systems Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting HVAC mechanical, electrical, and control systems under direct supervision. This role requires technical aptitude, attention to detail, and effective communication skills to ensure proper system functionality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Device installation: Mount and terminate low voltage system field devices as required.
- Software loading: Load system-level controller software.
- Commissioning & diagnostics: Perform basic commissioning and system diagnostics from controllers to end devices (sensors, actuators, etc.), and complete required documentation.
- Progress reporting: Keep management and contractors/customers informed of job progress and issues.
- Calibration: Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment.
- Documentation: Complete paperwork including time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation; document changes for as-built records.
- Customer communication: Communicate with contractors or customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
- Safety compliance: Adhere to safety standards with a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical aptitude with ability to use hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws).
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective informing and listening skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
- Ability to respond to warranty calls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Client configuration and commissioning tools.
- Experience with mounting and termination of low voltage devices (special licensing may be required depending on location).
