Job SummaryThe Phlebotomist serves patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. This role is responsible for drawing quality blood samples while fostering an atmosphere of trust and confidence. The Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, processing, and documentation in compliance with established protocols and regulatory standards.Principal Job DutiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.Greet patients courteously and provide a professional, compassionate experience.Collect specimens according to established procedures, explaining venipuncture or other collection methods (urine, fecal, etc.) clearly and respectfully.Reduce patient anxiety by maintaining a calm environment before, during, and after specimen collection.Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles and butterfly needles.Accurately interpret and follow physicians’ orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.Follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and specimen processing.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as appropriate.Perform other duties as assigned.EducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.Experience and Required SkillsMinimum of 2 years’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred QualificationsExcellent patient interaction skills, both in person and by phone.Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.Education: High SchoolCompany DescriptionCompunnel Software Group, Inc., the parent organization of Compunnel Healthcare has expanded its staffing services within the blooming healthcare industry.
