REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record.
- Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
- Revise and update course content and materials of instruction in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the discipline or area of specialization.
- Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty on a regular basis to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators for each course.
- May participate in curriculum and program development; may provide input into the development of student learning outcomes.
- May attend and participate on committees and in department, division, campus, and district meetings.
- May participate in articulation and matriculation related activities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY:
- The sport of football - instruction, tactics, and strategies for a men's intercollegiate program.
- Collegiate athletic operations, particularly within the California Community College system.
- 3C2A constitution, articles and bylaws, as well as standards and Title IX requirements.
- Work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a college environment.
- Interpret and apply athletic regulations, policies, and operational procedures.
- Manage multiple timelines and priorities independently and effectively.
- Maintain professionalism and discretion in sensitive matters.
- Work in the evenings and/or weekends if practices or games are scheduled.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience coaching any sport/any age OR an Associate of Arts Degree and six (6) years' experience coaching any sport/any age. One year of experience is defined as 1720 hours of paid or volunteer experience coaching a sports team.
Experience with compliance standards in collegiate athletics.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage logistics, and work collaboratively across departments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valid California Community College instructor credential in appropriate subject; OR the equivalent
Sensitivity to and understanding of multi-cultural, diverse environments and college students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent.
Two (2) years coaching at the varsity high school, collegiate, or professional level.
Familiarity with 3C2A and NCAA regulations.
Experience with student-athlete academic support and engagement strategies.
Supervisory experience and the ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects.
License and/or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in an athletic facility and field, and a standard office setting, and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, and to view, assess, and determine coaching decisions; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Must possess the ability to oversee practices and games in varying weather and field conditions. When working in an office, standing in and walking between work areas is occasionally required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and close to retrieve and file information. Positions in this classification may also stand for extended periods of time in the course of directing operations. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 25 pounds. The essential functions of this classification must be performed by the incumbents with or without reasonable accommodation.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Employees work mainly in an outdoor environment and is occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, and varying weather conditions. Employees may interact with upset individuals in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
HOURLY RANGE: $47.36 - $82.90 (depending upon education and experience)
Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District.
