Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) offers a variety of cancer treatment options including radiation oncology. Radiation therapy, or radiation oncology, is quicker, safer, and more precise than ever before. Radiation oncologists at CCCN use the most advanced treatment planning systems and state-of-the-art radiation technology to deliver internal and external radiation that helps prevent cancerous cells from growing or dividing, and potentially eliminates them. Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada has an exciting opportunity for a Radiation Therapy Assistant to work part-time within the Las Vegas, Nevada area. In this role, you will work with some of the best physicians in their fields while providing care to patients in a successful health care organization.

Scope

The Radiation Therapy Assistant will assist in the care of patients undergoing radiation therapy. Working alongside the Radiation Therapist, you will prepare custom blocking devises. You will support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately manufactures cerrobend blocks including proper labeling for patient and orientations.
  • Under direct supervision, assists in the set up of accurate radiation therapy treatments and simulations including assisting with patient transfers, set-up and changing custom blocks.
  • Assists with maintaining QA standards for processes by conducting regularly scheduled diagnostic equipment checks.
  • Assists with front office duties including film acquisition and inventory, answering phones, and filing and purging medical records.
  • Performs courier services to transfer patient information between treatment sites.
  • Assists with the manufacture of custom patient molds/treatment devices in the simulator and/or treatment room.
  • Assists in maintaining medical supply inventories.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one year medical/healthcare experience required
  • Prior experience with radiation therapy principles and block fabrication preferred, but not required.

Must be able to stand for 8 hours; lift 40 pound block to shoulder level; have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures on simulation and port films; have adequate hearing and speaking capabilities to effectively communicate with patients and staff; have adequate mobility to assist patients on and off treatment couch and be able to legibly enter information on films and fabrication forms.

Involves frequent contact with staff, patients and physicians. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to blood, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work may require travel by automobile to various sites of service.
