JOB SUMMARY

The NDT Level III serves as a technical authority for nondestructive testing processes within the NDT department, reporting to Engineering Department Management.  This position will provide advanced expertise, oversight, and support to ensure the effective execution of inspection methods in compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role is responsible for developing, qualifying, and optimizing NDT techniques; supporting production operations; and mentoring Level I and Level II Inspectors.

Operating alongside the Responsible Level III, this position focuses on technical leadership in NDT method application, training, procedure development, and engineering integration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  2. Develop and deploy work instructions that comply with OEM manuals, and customer and regulatory requirements.
  3. Provide technical support for in-process and final inspections of aerospace components.
  4. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to Level I and Level II NDT Technicians to support skill development and ensure adherence to established inspection standards and procedures.
  5. Recommend and apply appropriate NDT methods for root cause determination, while documenting findings and supporting corrective actions.
  6. Work closely with engineering, quality, production, and inspection teams to align inspection strategies with product requirements.
  7. Support compliance with industry standards such as NAS-410, ASTM, and applicable FAA/EASA regulations.
  8. Revise NDT tools and methods for continuous improvement of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  9. Provide technical review and input to Responsible Level III for final approval when required.
  10. Evaluate new NDT technologies for applicability to aerospace products and processes.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have attained NDT Level III certification and demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of experience performing as a Level II, with preference given to candidates with aerospace industry experience.
  2. Mechanically inclined with the ability to evaluate from both a technical and mechanical perspective.
  3. Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of technical drawings and work scope instructions.
  4. Welding inspection background or CWI with college level materials courses such as Intro to Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Processes helpful.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Above average knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  2. Experience in interpreting and applying basic shop math and the use of measuring devices, such as micrometers and calipers.
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to work effectively with other engineers and technicians as well as the ability to convey complex technical concepts to all levels of the organization.
  4. Problem solving and analytical skills, capable of identifying and resolving technical issues.
  5. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  3. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. 
  4. Occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
