Position Overview:
Compliance Management International is seeking an experienced Battery Safety Compliance Specialist to support a high-impact project within an electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing environment. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with regulatory safety standards for battery production equipment and operations. Candidates should bring 3–5 years of relevant industry experience along with a strong working knowledge of lithium-ion battery safety protocols and applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure battery systems and related manufacturing processes adhere to applicable safety regulations and standards, including UN38.3, ISO 26262, NFPA codes, 29 CFR 1910, and other industry-specific compliance requirements.
- Conduct safety risk assessments and hazard analyses for battery manufacturing operations and equipment.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive safety documentation such as safety plans, hazard logs, and regulatory compliance reports.
- Interface with regulatory agencies, certification bodies, and internal/external stakeholders to ensure safety alignment and readiness.
- Lead and support incident response planning, emergency preparedness, and root cause analyses in the event of battery-related safety concerns.
- Collaborate with suppliers, testing laboratories, and technical teams to ensure battery designs and processes meet safety benchmarks.
- Promote continuous improvement in safety performance through audits, training, and best practice implementation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ direct experience in battery safety, preferably within EV manufacturing or high-capacity battery systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory frameworks and standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and NFPA guidelines.
- Experience applying process safety techniques such as HAZOP, FMEA, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with product certification and testing processes for lithium-ion battery systems.
Competencies & Attributes:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when translating technical information for regulatory or operational audiences.
- Ability to self-manage and resolve complex compliance issues with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional environments.
- Willingness to work extended hours based on project needs.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and access elevated platforms in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Capability to wear and properly use all required PPE, including but not limited to respirators, gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor work conditions, including potential temperature extremes, chemical exposure, and particulate matter.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of responding to emergency events (alarms, spills, evacuations).
