What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Technician- Security Installation/Electrical position at Complex Security Solutions?
SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Complex Security Solutions, Inc. | New Berlin, WI | Full-Time
About Us
Complex Security Solutions, Inc. is a New Berlin, Wisconsin-based security integration firm delivering enterprise-grade physical security solutions to commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. We design, install, and service integrated systems across access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection.
Our technicians are the backbone of our operation, and we invest in the professionals who represent us in the field.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly proficient Service Technician to join our team in the New Berlin, WI area. This role is responsible for the service, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex integrated security systems at commercial customer sites. The ideal candidate operates with a high degree of independence, holds deep hands-on knowledge of industry-leading platforms, and consistently delivers a professional, solutions-oriented experience for our clients.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a technician who can walk onto any job site, assess a system, and execute — with minimal direction.
Key Responsibilities
Service, troubleshoot, repair, and program integrated security systems including access control, CCTV/IP video surveillance, and intrusion detection
Install, configure, and commission systems from Axis, Bosch, Honeywell, and Software House (CCURE 9000)
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, system audits, and inspections on existing installations
Respond to service calls — including emergency and after-hours requests — in a timely and professional manner
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues across installed systems
Program and configure access control databases, cardholder management, reader hardware, and door hardware (maglocks, electric strikes, mortise sets, ADA hardware)
Troubleshoot and maintain IP-based CCTV systems including NVRs, encoders, and camera configuration
Commission and service intrusion alarm systems including panels, keypads, sensors, and communicators
Complete accurate service reports, time logs, and job documentation upon each site visit
Conduct end-user training on system operation as needed
Maintain a professional image and strong working relationship with customers on-site
Coordinate with project managers and the service team on escalations, parts needs, and scheduling
Required Qualifications
5 years of hands-on experience in the commercial electronic security industry (installation, service, or integration)
Demonstrated, highly proficient experience with two or more of the following platforms:
Axis — IP cameras, network video, and encoder configuration
Bosch — intrusion panels, CCTV, and access control systems
Honeywell — Pro-Watch, VISTA intrusion, and access control platforms
Software House CCURE 9000 — access control, cardholder management, and hardware programming
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision — this role operates largely in the field without on-site management
Availability to participate in on-call rotation, including after-hours and weekend emergency response
Strong working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, network switches)
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, system drawings, and technical documentation
Proficiency with hand and power tools; ability to mount, terminate, and test low-voltage systems
Valid Wisconsin driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to lift 50 lbs consistently; comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied commercial environments
High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred Qualifications
Vendor certifications in one or more of the following: Axis, Bosch, Honeywell, CCURE 9000, Genetec, Lenel, or DMP
Associate's degree or postsecondary training in electronics, networking, or a related field
Experience with locking hardware: maglocks, electric strikes, mortise, cylindrical, and ADA-compliant hardware
Familiarity with fiber optic and structured cabling systems
NICET certification in Access Control or CCTV
BICSI certification preferred — RCDD, RTPM, or Installer designation a plus
Wisconsin alarm contractor or low-voltage license (or ability to obtain)
Prior experience at firms such as Johnson Controls, Convergint Technologies, Paladin Technologies, Faith Technologies, or comparable national security integrators
What Sets Our Technicians Apart
Unlike large national integrators where technicians are often assigned narrow scopes by discipline, Complex Security Solutions technicians operate across the full spectrum of integrated security — access control, video surveillance, and intrusion — on every engagement. You will own your service calls, and represent the company directly with clients.
The expectation is expertise and ownership, not just execution. Our technicians are trusted professionals, not labor.
