Shelton, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 8/13/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/11/2026
Vice President of Engineering / Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Shelton, Connecticut
Compensation: $165,000–$185,000
Schedule: Full-time, onsite

A well-established Connecticut manufacturer is seeking a seasoned, hands-on electrical engineer to lead its engineering function and support the development of advanced transformer and magnetic-component solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly technical engineering leader who wants executive-level influence while remaining directly involved in product design, calculations, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support, and customer applications.

The company is a privately held, vertically integrated U.S. manufacturer with more than four decades of experience producing custom transformers and magnetic solutions for utility, medical, marine, datacenter, energy-storage, industrial, and other mission-critical applications.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and direction across electrical engineering, product development, testing, and manufacturing support.
  • Design custom toroidal transformers, isolation transformers, inductors, current transformers, and other magnetic components.
  • Perform electrical, magnetic, thermal, insulation, efficiency, and performance calculations.
  • Translate customer specifications into complete engineering designs, drawings, bills of materials, test requirements, and production documentation.
  • Lead new-product development from concept and feasibility through prototyping, validation, certification, and production launch.
  • Support single-phase and three-phase power applications involving utility systems, UPS equipment, datacenters, energy storage, medical devices, marine systems, and industrial power.
  • Ensure products comply with applicable UL, Intertek/ETL, safety, insulation, and performance requirements.
  • Work directly with customers, OEMs, system integrators, certification laboratories, and internal manufacturing personnel.
  • Lead product testing involving temperature rise, dielectric strength, efficiency, regulation, load performance, insulation, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to product performance, electromagnetic interference, thermal behavior, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with manufacturing to improve winding methods, tooling, assembly processes, testing procedures, product consistency, and manufacturability.
  • Support technical quotations, customer proposals, cost evaluations, and new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate directly with executive leadership on engineering strategy, new markets, product expansion, and long-term growth.
  • Establish engineering standards, documentation practices, design controls, and product-development priorities.
  • Help build and mentor the engineering function as the organization continues to grow.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant electrical engineering experience involving transformers, magnetics, power distribution, power conversion, or power electronics.
  • Hands-on experience designing transformers, inductors, current transformers, isolation systems, or comparable electromagnetic products.
  • Strong knowledge of magnetic cores, winding design, conductor sizing, insulation systems, thermal performance, efficiency, and regulation.
  • Experience taking engineered products from customer specification through design, testing, certification, and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with UL, Intertek/ETL, or comparable product-certification requirements.
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing environment and designing products for reliable, cost-effective production.
  • Ability to perform detailed engineering calculations and remain actively involved in laboratory testing and technical problem-solving.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Comfortable working in a smaller, entrepreneurial organization where leaders are expected to wear multiple hats.
Preferred Experience
  • Toroidal transformers or specialty magnetic components.
  • Medium- or high-power transformer applications.
  • Three-phase power systems, UPS systems, datacenter infrastructure, or energy-storage applications.
  • Utility restoration, grid modernization, metering, or current-transformer technologies.
  • Medical-grade or marine-grade isolation systems.
  • EMI mitigation, shielding, power quality, or high-efficiency magnetic designs.
  • Previous engineering leadership within a specialized manufacturing organization.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished electrical engineer who still enjoys doing the engineering work. This individual should be equally comfortable establishing technical strategy, developing detailed designs, working on the manufacturing floor, meeting with customers, and troubleshooting prototypes in the laboratory.

This position offers the opportunity to become a central technical leader within a growing American manufacturer and help develop power solutions supporting critical infrastructure and emerging markets.
