Inside Machinist II About the Role
Complete Logistical Services is seeking an Inside Machinist II to support precision machining operations by programming, setting up, and producing complex components on CNC and manual equipment. This role focuses on producing parts that meet critical dimensional, fit, and surface finish requirements through accurate setup, inspection, and documentation.
Success in this position means consistently executing machining work from technical documentation, validating programs through first-article runs, and maintaining quality and safety standards while working independently with occasional supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities- Review and edit CNC programs for lathe and mill operations using G-code and CAM platforms.
- Set up, align, and secure workpieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines.
- Conduct first-article runs and validate program results to confirm dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
- Perform setup and operation of a range of shop equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and related machinery as required.
- Machine complex components from materials such as HY-80, HY-100, stainless steel, Inconel, and other submarine-grade alloys.
- Select appropriate speeds, feeds, tooling, accessories, and cutting methods to meet required tolerances and surface finishes under some supervision.
- Execute complex machining operations using both CNC and manual equipment, following established procedures and work instructions.
- Read, interpret, and execute machining work from complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, and GD&T callouts.
- Assist with laying out workpieces, measuring and marking reference points, and planning machining processes for one-off components.
- Inspect, measure, and verify machined features using precision metrology tools such as micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, and dial indicators.
- Accurately record measurements and inspection data to support compliance with critical tolerances.
- Follow company, OSHA, and NAVSEA safety and cleanliness requirements while maintaining high workmanship standards.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience machining complex components in a precision or defense manufacturing environment (e.g., submarine, aerospace, defense, nuclear, or similarly critical components).
- Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming for both lathe and mill operations.
- Ability to perform full setup and operate CNC and/or manual machines.
- Ability to edit existing CNC programs and perform offsets as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of shop math, including converting between decimals and fractions, basic decimal/fraction arithmetic, and basic trigonometry used for layout and measurements.
- Ability to perform in-process inspections and maintain accurate documentation aligned with quality requirements.
