The Weatherization, Insulation & Air Sealing Crew Technician is a hands-on working installer who operates a company truck and completes residential energy efficiency upgrades with a 2–3-person crew. This position focuses on daily installation work — not crew management — and requires strong technical skills in air sealing, insulation, and weatherization. The Crew Lead is responsible for job quality, efficiency, and professional customer interaction on each assigned project.
Key Responsibilities
Job Execution
- Review daily work orders and ensure correct materials, tools, and equipment are on board.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper maintenance of truck and equipment.
- Complete jobs efficiently while meeting company quality and safety standards.
Air Sealing
- Perform and lead residential air sealing measures, including but not limited to:
- Sealing top plates, attic penetrations, and framing gaps
- Sealing rim joists and band boards
- Air sealing around windows, doors, and mechanical penetrations
Duct sealing where applicable
Properly use air sealing materials such as foam, caulk, gaskets, and sealants.
- Identify major air leakage pathways and thermal bypasses.
- Coordinate air sealing work prior to insulation installation to ensure maximum effectiveness.
- Verify air sealing completeness through visual inspection, photos and quality checks.
Insulation Services
- Perform lead and oversee installation of residential insulation, including:
- Blown-in fiberglass and cellulose
- Batt insulation
- Rigid board insulation (as applicable)
- Ensure correct insulation depth, coverage, and density in attics, walls, crawlspaces, basements, and rim joists.
- Install ventilation baffles, fire blocking, insulation dams, and attic access covers as required.
- Assist in addressing comfort issues related to air leakage and insulation performance.
- Perform post-installation checks to confirm scope completion and workmanship quality.
Customer Interaction & Documentation
- Communicate professionally with homeowners during installation.
- Explain air sealing and insulation improvements when needed.
- Complete job documentation, photos, and material usage accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience in air sealing, insulation, and/or residential weatherization.
- Strong working knowledge of air sealing techniques and materials.
- Ability to lead and work effectively with one crew member.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Comfortable working in attics, crawlspaces, and confined spaces.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor in varying conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- BPI Weatherization Crew Lead or Air Sealing–related certification.
- OSHA 10/30, EPA Lead RRP certification.
- Experience with home performance or energy efficiency programs.
