Job Summary: Complete Dermatology offers three levels for the Medical Assistant Role. These levels are I, II, and III. A Medical Assistant I will primarily be responsible for assisting the physicians in obtaining history and chief complaint, updating and entering medication lists, cleaning and stocking exam rooms. A Medical Assistant II and III are mostly responsible for scribing, assisting with biopsies and selecting surgery procedures. Other responsibilities include patient education on treatment plans and medication nursing procedures, such as suture removal dressing changes, allergen patch testing, and completion of pathology and lab requisition documents.
Education & Experience:
1. High school diploma: college degree preferred.
2. One or more years of experience in a medical office working as a medical assistant is required.

Responsibilities:
1. Primary Duties
a. Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and as required by patient’s chief complaint. Obtains or updates medication list if necessary. Sets up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate physicians needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely.
b. Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedure such as excisions ED&C, cryotherapy, laser surgery, etc.
c. Educate patients as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. Ensure that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
d. Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits.
e. Performs nursing procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, allergen patch testing.
f. Completely and correctly fills out the required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by physician. Provides clinical staff with all completed documents for data entry into the biopsy log.
2. Secondary Duties
a. Stocks exam rooms.
b. Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
c. Notifies clinical staff of supplies needed to avoid shortages.
d. Performs other duties and tasks as needed or as assigned.
e. Some self-studies may be required outside of normal business hours.
f. Ensures HIPAA and OSHA guidelines are followed at all times.
