Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications via IV infusion, injections, and other routes while adhering to aseptic technique and HIPAA regulations to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization (urinary, cardiac), tube feeding management, and ostomy care with precision and compassion.
- Manage acute pain through effective pain management strategies and monitor patients in critical care units such as ICU or PICU environments.
- Coordinate diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection/processing, radiologic procedures like sonography or mammography, and infectious disease care protocols.
- Provide patient education on treatment plans, discharge instructions, medication administration, and health coaching tailored to diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, or individuals with disabilities.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards.
Skills
- Proven experience working in various healthcare settings such as hospital medicine, emergency medicine, urgent care, or outpatient clinics with familiarity in trauma medicine (Level I & II trauma centers).
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Skilled in critical care practices including ventilator management, airway management, ICU procedures, and acute care protocols.
- Experience with specialized nursing fields such as hospice & palliative medicine, behavioral health, geriatrics—including memory care—and post-acute care environments.
- Proficiency in working with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner; familiarity with laboratory experience; ability to perform venipuncture and phlebotomy accurately.
- Excellent patient assessment skills with the ability to triage effectively in urgent or emergency situations; adept at working with individuals with developmental disabilities or complex health needs.
- Knowledge of infection control practices; capable of managing sterile processing and aseptic techniques during procedures like spinal taps or gastric lavage.
