Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our patients. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong background in medical reception, and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems. As a Medical Receptionist, you will manage patient scheduling, verify insurance information, handle medical records, collect co-payments, answer phones and provide exceptional patient service to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and professionally while managing multi-line phone systems with courteous phone etiquette.
- Schedule appointments accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring proper documentation review for billing purposes.
- Maintain organized medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Assist with insurance claims processing and follow-up on outstanding medical collections to optimize revenue cycle management.
- Support clinical staff by preparing intake forms, updating patient information, and managing clinic flow efficiently.
- Perform clerical tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and maintaining office supplies using Microsoft Office tools.
- Ensure accurate documentation of care plans and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding for billing and recordkeeping purposes.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical office or healthcare setting with proficiency in EMR systems like Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, CPT coding, and medical billing procedures.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with dental terminology or dental office management systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual abilities are desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Experience with insurance verification processes and familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards.
- Exceptional customer service skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and clear communication abilities.
