Position Summary
CompassPoint Community Partners is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Driver / Resident Transportation Specialist to transport residents, staff, and project-related personnel during residential relocation and community redevelopment projects.
This position plays a vital role in ensuring residents are transported safely, respectfully, and on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and customer service. The ideal candidate enjoys helping people, communicates well with diverse populations, and takes pride in operating Company vehicles safely.
Primary Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Ford Transit passenger van and other Company vehicles as assigned.
- Transport residents, employees, contractors, and authorized guests to approved destinations.
- Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle when appropriate.
- Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and inspection reports.
- Ensure all passengers are seated and wearing seat belts before travel.
- Follow assigned schedules, routes, and dispatch instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional vehicle.
- Report accidents, traffic citations, mechanical concerns, and safety issues immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and project information.
- Represent CompassPoint professionally at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License (or higher) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to qualify under the Company's commercial automobile insurance requirements.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to assist passengers with limited mobility when appropriate.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving passenger vans or shuttle vehicles.
- Experience working with seniors, families, affordable housing, or community service organizations.
- Defensive driving certification.
- DOT Medical Card or CDL license
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Sit for extended periods while driving.
- Frequently enter and exit the vehicle.
- Walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb into the vehicle.
- Occasionally lift and move boxes or personal belongings up to 50 pounds.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Safety Requirements
Drivers are expected to maintain the highest level of safety and professionalism by:
- Complying with all traffic laws.
- Completing vehicle inspections before and after every shift.
- Immediately reporting unsafe vehicle conditions.
- Maintaining a drug-free workplace.
- Following all CompassPoint company policies.
- Participating in required safety meetings and training.
Background Screening
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of:
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review
- Criminal background check, where permitted by law
- Commercial auto insurance driver approval
- Drug screening in accordance with Company policy
Schedule
- Hours vary based on resident relocation schedules. Majority of work is early morning transport and mid afternoon transports between the property and nearby hotels were residents are temporarily housed.
- Early morning will be required. Must be able to start work about 6am. Evening or weekend work may be required.
