Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews to determine individual care needs.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and medication management.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic to document patient information, medical records, and treatment plans meticulously.
- Provide specialized care in areas such as critical care, emergency medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, or long-term care environments.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations like laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, and imaging procedures such as sonography or mammography when applicable.
- Implement infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety during procedures like suturing or catheterization.
- Assist with complex procedures including cardiac catheterization, ventilator management, trauma medicine interventions, or neonatal resuscitation procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop discharge planning and case management strategies that optimize patient outcomes.
- Support patients with chronic conditions such as dementia or developmental disabilities by providing memory care or behavioral health support tailored to individual needs.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics like pain management, nutrition, medication administration, or post-acute care instructions.
Skills
- Proven experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic for accurate documentation.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Expertise in specialized nursing fields including ICU experience, trauma medicine at Level I or Level II trauma centers, hospice & palliative medicine, or infectious disease care.
- Skilled in performing advanced procedures such as IV insertion, tube feeding management, ostomy care, or spinal taps.
- Demonstrated ability to manage acute pain cases effectively and provide critical & intensive care in fast-paced environments like emergency rooms or surgical units.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges.
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards such as HIPAA regulations and NCQA standards for quality assurance.
- Ability to adapt quickly to various clinical settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient hospital units, home care environments or assisted living facilities.
