What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing Specialist position at Compassionate Arms, INC.?
About Us
Compassionate Arms is a licensed home care agency serving Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties since 2015. With hundreds of caregivers in the field and offices in Sterling Heights and Troy, we support seniors and individuals with disabilities across a wide range of programs — community mental health, state home help, area agency on aging contracts, Medicare/Medicaid dual-eligible health plans, and private pay clients.
We're a growing, tech-forward organization that invests in the people who keep our operations running.
Position Summary
We're looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support our billing and revenue cycle operations. This role sits at the center of getting our caregivers paid accurately and our claims out the door clean and on time. You'll work with caregiver timesheets, electronic visit verification data, program-specific invoicing, and claim submission across multiple payers.
If you're the kind of person who notices when a number doesn't add up and can't let it go until it's resolved, you'll do well here.
What You'll Do
- Review, verify, and reconcile caregiver timesheets and visit documentation against authorized service hours
- Audit electronic visit verification records for accuracy and completeness; identify and resolve exceptions before billing
- Prepare and submit program-specific invoices and billing packets according to each payer's requirements and deadlines
- Submit claims through clearinghouses and payer portals; track submissions through to payment
- Work denials and rejections — research the root cause, correct, and resubmit
- Post payments, reconcile remittance advices, and follow up on aging accounts receivable
- Verify client eligibility and confirm active service authorizations
- Maintain organized, audit-ready billing records in compliance with HIPAA and payer documentation standards
- Communicate with scheduling, HR, and care coordination teams to resolve discrepancies at the source
- Assist with reporting and month-end close activities as needed
