Compass Rose Student Housing is a growing student housing property management company dedicated to supporting students through quality housing, exceptional customer service, and a positive living experience. We are seeking a motivated, customer-focused professional to serve as an Assistant Director of Resident Life / Inspector supporting student housing operations across two partner school locations in and near the Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Pasadena, CA areas.

This unique role combines resident life, property management, customer service, and property inspection responsibilities. The successful candidate will be highly organized, a self-starter who takes initiative, and passionate about helping young adults achieve personal success while maintaining safe, compliant, and welcoming residential communities.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Resident Life / Inspector will assist in the overall management and operational success of student housing programs at two client school locations. This position serves as a key representative of Compass Rose Student Housing and requires regular travel between our office and properties located nearby in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and to our properties located in Pasadena, CA.

The role includes resident relations, property inspections, leasing support, rent collection coordination, student services, occupancy management, and housing compliance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, reliability, communication, and problem-solving skills while maintaining a professional presence with residents, school administrators, vendors, and property management partners. Candidate must also have reliable transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Life & Student Services

  • Travel required regularly between two assigned schools in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Pasadena, CA and their student housing locations.
  • Support current and prospective student residents with housing needs through frequent communication, follow-up, and problem resolution.
  • Foster a positive residential environment that encourages personal growth, responsibility, and community engagement.
  • Coordinate resident communications, community notices, and resident-focused activities and events.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with school administrators, residents, and community stakeholders.
  • Address resident concerns, conflicts, and disputes promptly and professionally.

Property Management Operations

  • Assist with daily management of student housing operations across multiple locations.
  • Support occupancy management, leasing activities, move-ins, move-outs, and resident retention initiatives.
  • Coordinate rent collection activities and assist with delinquency management and eviction processes in partnership with centralized services.
  • Maintain accurate resident and property records.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, housing regulations, and school partnership requirements.

Property Inspection & Facilities Oversight

  • Conduct regular unit, common area, move-in, move-out, and safety inspections.
  • Document property conditions and prepare inspection reports.
  • Identify maintenance concerns and coordinate corrective actions with vendors and maintenance personnel.
  • Monitor cleanliness, safety, and overall property appearance standards.
  • Maintain oversight of key control systems, including key inventory and key box access.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Utilize property management software, databases, and Microsoft Office applications effectively.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, correspondence, and resident communications.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling resident information and sensitive matters.
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel regularly between two assigned schools in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Pasadena, CA and their student housing locations.
  • Strong customer service, reliability, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong administrative skills to include computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and database management systems.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor both on and off-site.

  • Frequent walking throughout residential properties.
  • Ability to climb stairs and conduct unit inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to drive between assigned locations as needed.
