Position Summary
The In-Plant Railcar Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing freight railcars at customer facilities in accordance with AAR, FRA, customer, and company standards while maintaining a safe, professional, and quality-focused work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect freight railcars in accordance with AAR, FRA, customer, and company requirements.
- Diagnose defects and perform repairs to brake systems, couplers, draft gear, running gear, safety appliances, and structural components within certification level.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled repair activities.
- Safely operate hand, pneumatic, hydraulic, and power tools.
- Follow all safety policies and customer-specific requirements.
- Complete inspection reports, work orders, labor reporting, and repair documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, inventory, and housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Pass pre-employment drug screening and participate in company drug and alcohol testing.
- Pass required background screenings.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use tools.
Physical RequirementsWorking Conditions
- Lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather.
- Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
- DOT-regulated vehicle operation may be required.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and remain insurable.
