Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gather pertinent health data through physical assessments such as vital signs and biological samples. Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Obtains any pertinent medical records
- Provides basic patient care as ordered. Administers medications, vaccines and treatments as directed. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
- Obtains correct information to complete charting for next day appointments implemented by check in process
- Ensures exam/procedure rooms are stocked and cleaned routinely
- Ensures lab area is organized and clean at all times
- Adheres to the scope of practice for medical assistants in the state of practice, performing only those skills allowed by state law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rooming patients and taking vital signs
- Administering vaccines and assisting providers with exams
- Performing CLIA-waived tests and documenting in EMR (AthenaHealth)
- Preparing exam rooms and maintaining cleanliness standards
- Providing patient education and supporting families during visits.
- Managing supply inventory and assisting with front desk as needed
Experience
- Medical Assistant certification or relevant experience preferred
- Pediatric experience a plus but not required
- Strong communication and multitasking skills
- Team player with a positive, flexible attitude
Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of vaccine importance, vaccine schedule and vaccine process in administration and documentation.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
Skills
- Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
- Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill in handling several tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in performing blood draws.
- Skill in Vaccine administration.
Abilities
- Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
- Ability to problem solve: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Ability to listen, follow direction and obtain clarification when necessary
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment
- Ability to complete assigned responsibilities and demands of clinic
- Ability to maintain safety, cleanliness, and security: Reporting unsafe conditions. Keeping the workspace clean and uncluttered.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively: Reporting off, patient contact and within the staff team.
