We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to join our growing team and support the financial and administrative operations essential to client care.
The Billing Specialist will oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle management process, including insurance verification, claims management, denial resolution, provider credentialing, CAQH maintenance and client questions related to billing. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in behavioral health or healthcare billing operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesInsurance Verification & Benefits
- Conduct Verification of Benefits (VOB) for all clients prior to services by phone
- Confirm eligibility, copays, deductibles, authorization requirements, and coverage limitations
- Maintain accurate documentation of insurance benefits and payer communications
Claims Management
- Submit clean claims electronically and manually as needed
- Scrub claims for accuracy and compliance prior to submission
- Monitor claim status and resolve rejected or unpaid claims promptly
- Ensure timely filing compliance for all payers
Aging Reports & Collections
- Review and manage accounts receivable aging reports
- Follow up on outstanding insurance claims and balances
- Identify trends impacting reimbursement and recommend corrective actions
- Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing issues
Denials Management
- Investigate and appeal denied or underpaid claims
- Track denial trends and implement preventative solutions
- Maintain organized records of appeals and payer correspondence
Provider Credentialing & CAQH
- Manage provider credentialing and recredentialing with insurance payers
- Maintain provider enrollment records and payer contracts
- Complete and maintain CAQH profiles and attestations for all providers
- Ensure providers remain compliant and credentialed with all participating networks
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of medical or behavioral health billing experience highly preferred
- Knowledge of insurance verification, claims processing, and denial management
- Strong experience with provider credentialing and CAQH attestation required
- Familiarity with AdvancedMD highly preferred
- Strong understanding of payer guidelines and revenue cycle processes
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment billing
- Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance plans
- CPC or billing certification is a plus
