Job Summary
Compass Middle Charter is a public charter school and participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). All candidates must have a bachelor's degree. A Florida teaching certificate or letter of elgiblity is required. We are seeking a dedicated Secondary Social Studies Teacher to inspire and educate students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will have a passion for history, civics, and social sciences, combined with strong classroom management, instructional skills and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. This role involves developing engaging curricula, utilizing innovative teaching methods, and supporting students’ academic growth within a dynamic educational setting.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive social studies curricula aligned with state standards and educational best practices.
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate diverse instructional strategies, including the integration of learning technology and multimedia resources.
- Deliver engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, civic awareness, and historical understanding.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing and project-based assessments.
- Provide individualized support through tutoring, academic advising, and mentoring to help students achieve their full potential.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a respectful and productive learning environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional design, and school-wide initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to curriculum development, higher education teaching techniques, and special education strategies as needed.
- Participate in school activities, parent-teacher conferences, and community outreach efforts to support student success.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of social studies content areas including history, civics, geography, economics, and government.
- Proficiency in curriculum development, instructional design, and lesson planning.
- Excellent communication skills for effective classroom management and student engagement.
- Experience with classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies
