Compass Healthcare Consulting & Placement is conducting a search for an experienced Psychiatrist, MD for a Hospice position within an In Patient Hospice setting in the Bronx, NY. Qualified candidates will have prior Psychiatrist experience within Hospital, Inpatient Hospice, Community Based Hospice or Palliative Care. Great opportunity for an experienced Psychiatric Practitioner to provide Hospice and Palliative Care to patients within the Hospital facility.
The In-Patient Hospice Psychiatrist provides specialized mental health care for terminally ill patients, focusing on managing psychiatric symptoms (anxiety, depression, delirium), optimizing medications for comfort, offering holistic support to patients and families, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure pain/symptom management aligns with patient goals, integrating complex behavioral health needs into end-of-life care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for patients facing terminal illness, diagnosing and treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and agitation.
- Manage psychotropic medications, adjust dosages for symptom relief, and consult on complex symptom management related to the underlying illness and end-of-life phase.
- Develop and modify care plans focusing on quality of life, addressing spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs alongside physical comfort.
- Provide emotional support and education to families, helping them navigate difficult decisions and understand the patient's mental and emotional state.
- Work closely with hospice physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains to integrate mental health care into the overall palliative plan.
- Address urgent behavioral health crises, preventing unnecessary hospitalizations and maintaining care within the hospice setting.
Education
- Psychiatrist, Medical Doctor (MD/DO) with extensive medical training, focusing on biological aspects of mental illness, often leading complex cases and prescribing.
Setting & Environment
- Care provided within a dedicated facility for end-of-life care
- Aggressive symptom management and enhancing quality of life for patients with serious illnesses (cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.).
