What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager Assistant/ Project Engineer position at Compass Construction?
The Project Manager Assistant/Project Engineer supports the successful planning, execution, and closeout of construction projects by assisting Project Managers with administrative, scheduling, documentation, and communication tasks. This role is critical to maintaining organization, ensuring subcontractor compliance, and facilitating clear communication across project teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist Project Managers with day-to-day coordination of projects from pre-construction through closeout.
2. Maintain organized project files including contracts, drawings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, permits, and correspondence.
3. Track project schedules, deadlines, and deliverables to support on-time project completion.
4. Prepare meeting agendas, record meeting minutes, and distribute action items.
5. Log, track, and distribute RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
6. Maintain accurate, up-to-date project records within CRM systems, project management software, and shared data storage platforms.
7. Ensure subcontractor compliance documentation is current and properly stored, including Certificates of Insurance (COI), license numbers, W-9 forms, and 1099-related information.
8. Build out prequalification and safety ratings for subcontractors in and outside of network areas.
9. Assist with subcontractor agreements, purchase orders, and contract documentation.
10. Support preparation of progress reports, cost tracking summaries, and project status updates.
11. Serve as a liaison between Project Managers, field staff, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
12. Support development and maintenance of project schedules and material deliveries.
13. Assist with inspections, punch lists, warranties, and project closeout documentation.
14. Assist with invoice processing, subcontractor pay applications, and lien releases.
15. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall project success.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
1. 1–3 years of experience in construction coordination, project administration, or related field with a General Contractor.
2. Understanding of the construction processes, terminology, and documentation.
3. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
6. Proficiency with construction project management software such as Procore, Buildertrend, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
