About This Role:In this hands-on, independent role, you'll manage urgent and critical patients requiring intensive monitoring and timely intervention. You'll support veterinarians during urgent procedures, critical treatments, and patient stabilization, while also providing clear communication to pet owners and maintaining detailed medical records. You'll use your advanced expertise in emergency medicine and critical care protocols to work autonomously and ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Your experience and initiative will be essential in helping shape our evolving urgent care practice.
This position requires an active state credential: Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).
- Clinical Task Performance: Conducts physical exams, administer treatments, and performs diagnostic procedures, including collecting samples and running in-house lab tests. Assists veterinarians with surgeries, monitors anesthesia, and ensures proper patient recovery under supervision.
- Patient Care and Handling: Triages patients by gathering medical histories and assessing immediate needs. Handle and restrain animals safely, focusing on minimizing stress and maintaining the well-being of both patients and staff.
- Communication and Client Interaction: Effectively updates clients on patient status and explains treatment plans under veterinarian direction. Collaborates with the hospital team and fosters a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Medications and Medical Records Management: Accurately fills prescriptions, administers medications, and documents all treatments, including controlled drug logs, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Maintains precise and up-to-date patient records, including treatment notes and shift handoff updates.
- Team Coordination: Collaborates with the hospital team by assisting in training new employees, floating between departments, and contributing to a cohesive work environment. Participate in staff meetings, reviews, and on-call schedules to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.

- Proven ability to triage and prioritize critical patients effectively

- Proficiency in placing and managing IVC and PICC lines
- Experience drawing venous and arterial blood samples, performing ultrasound-guided cystocentesis
- Skilled in administering critical fluids and medications including boluses, CRIs, and blood products
- Knowledge of cross-matching, blood typing, and administering transfusions (pRBC, FFP, cryoprecipitate)
- Ability to effectively perform all aspects of CPR (recording medications, intubating, compressions, etc.)
- Experience inducing, monitoring, and recovering stable and critical patients from anesthesia
- Competency in managing feeding tubes, JP drains, and chest tubes
- Experience managing sedated and comatose patients on short-term and long-term ventilators
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Registered Veterinary Technician with current state certification required
- Minimum 3 years of veterinary experience in Emergency Medicine
- Minimum 1 year of direct ICU/critical care experience required
- Experience assisting with emergency and critical treatments, diagnostics, and procedures
