Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a Principal Nuclear Engineering professional to provide senior-level technical leadership supporting nuclear facility design, construction, startup, and operations.
You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME-3) guiding multi-discipline engineering teams, reviewing complex design packages, interpreting DOE/NNSA standards, and solving high-hazard technical challenges that directly support national security missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering activities across nuclear facility systems, structures, and components
- Perform 30/60/90% design reviews and provide expert technical guidance
- Interpret and apply DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Conduct independent engineering assessments and root-cause evaluations
- Direct and mentor multi-discipline engineering teams
- Support schedule/cost evaluations (P6, MS Project, EVMS)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelorโs degree 10 years engineering/technical leadership experience (or equivalent)
- Expertise with DOE/NNSA nuclear facility standards (ASME, NQA-1, NFPA, IEEE, NEC, etc.)
- Experience leading engineering teams in high-hazard or nuclear environments
- Strong communication and technical decision-making skills
- Ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q-Clearance
