Senior Work Control Planner
Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Work Control Planner position at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM.
Salary: $80-$85/hr
Location: Los Alamos, NM ( per diem approved )
Citizenship: US Citizenship Required
Work Schedule: On-site, 4- 10s, potential for shift work
Clearance: Q Clearance Required (or ability to obtain and maintain)

Join a mission-driven team supporting national security through critical infrastructure and maintenance planning operations within Detonator Production. The Work Control Planner plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities for unique and complex programmatic equipment. This position directly supports operational readiness through detailed planning, work package development, regulatory compliance, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare, review, and issue equipment and system modification, corrective maintenance, and preventive maintenance work packages in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
- Develop detailed work instructions, specifications, labor estimates, material requirements, and testing requirements for unique and complex maintenance activities.
- Analyze time and material requirements for maintenance and operational activities.
- Lead development of step-by-step work instructions and procedures for maintenance execution.
- Manage and expedite work packages according to established priorities and schedules.
- Prepare and review instructions for isolation, containment, and de-energization of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological systems.
- Support permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database management, and training coordination activities.
- Ensure compliance with Laboratory maintenance procedures, work authorization requirements, safety protocols, and industry regulations.
- Maintain accuracy within Asset Suite CMMS, MicroStrategy, and internal backlog tracking systems.
- Conduct research, investigate alternatives, and recommend solutions for complex work control and planning issues.
- Prepare and present work control reports and planning documentation to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment free from discrimination and harassment.
- Exercise stop-work authority when safety or security concerns arise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive experience with work control, maintenance planning, materials management, and/or mechanical maintenance in complex operational environments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage preventive and corrective maintenance work packages.
- Strong knowledge of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Experience utilizing computerized work management systems such as Asset Suite and/or SAP.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, evaluate alternatives, and resolve complex planning and work control issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, environmental impacts, and work control procedures affecting maintenance planning activities.
- Ability to self-supervise and work with minimal day-to-day direction.
- Ability to perform essential job functions including walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and balancing.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance.
Desired Skills
- Experience supporting maintenance planning activities in highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with Laboratory work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
- Experience supporting radiological, mechanical, electrical, or chemical systems.
- Proficiency with backlog tracking tools and reporting systems such as MicroStrategy.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
