What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Age Staff, Springfield YMCA position at Community YMCA?
The Springfield YMCA is seeking creative and versatile staff to join our School Age team working directly with our kindergarten program. The ideal candidate excels working with a team, creating a safe environment, and has knowledge of child development as well as DHS requirements.
Available shifts and essential functions are listed below:
7:00am-9:30am: Support the program, lead games and activities, then escort children by bus to their half day kindergarten program and return to the Springfield YMCA on the bus then assist the teachers on site at the YMCA.
11:00am-1:00pm: Supporting classrooms on site at the YMCA as well as assist with supervision for mid-day bus runs.
2:30pm-4:30pm: Lead and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate games and activities as children learn best through play and movement.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and well-supervised classroom environment
- Use positive guidance strategies aligned with YMCA core values
- Build strong relationships with families and communicate children’s progress
- Maintain required documentation (attendance, assessments, incident reports, etc.)
- Collaborate with Assistant Teachers and attend required meetings and trainings
- Follow all supervision, safety, and mandated reporter policies
Qualifications
- Minimum age 18
- Associate’s Degree with 30 credits in Early Childhood Education or related field
- 2 years (2500 hours) documented experience working with children
- CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid (or ability to obtain within 15 days)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Commitment to professional growth and working with diverse populations
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 15–50 pounds
- Ability to actively supervise children and respond to safety needs
