Job Description: Registered Professional Nurse (RN) Supervisor

Department: Nursing
Reports To: Director of Nursing / Assistant Director of Nursing
Position Type: Full-time/Part-time
Location: Katherine Luther Residential Facility, Long-Term Care

 

Position Summary

The LRN Supervisor provides nursing leadership and clinical oversight for residents and nursing staff during assigned shifts. This position ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate, and person-centered care in accordance with facility policies, physician orders, applicable regulations, and professional nursing standards.

The RN Supervisor coordinates daily nursing operations, supervises licensed and unlicensed staff, supports resident care planning, and promotes compliance with quality, safety, infection prevention, and documentation requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Supervision

  • Provide direct resident care as needed and oversee the delivery of care by nursing staff.
  • Evaluates residents, identify changes in condition, and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Notify the physician, advanced practice provider, Director of Nursing, and responsible party of significant changes in resident status, as required.
  • Ensure physician orders, treatment plans, medications, and care interventions are carried out appropriately.
  • Monitor residents for risks related to falls, skin breakdown, infections, elopement, weight loss, pain, and other clinical concerns.
  • Participate in admissions, readmissions, transfers, discharges, and emergency responses.
  • Support end-of-life care and communicate with residents, families, and hospice providers when applicable.

 

Staff Supervision and Leadership

  • Supervise CNAs, medication aides, LPNs, RNs, and other assigned staff within the scope of applicable law and facility policy.
  • Assign staff and resident care responsibilities based on census, acuity, staff competency, and operational needs.
  • Conduct shift huddles and communicate pertinent resident and unit information.
  • Monitor staff performance, attendance, professionalism, and adherence to facility policies.
  • Provide coaching, education, and corrective guidance when needed.
  • Assist with orientation, competency validation, performance evaluations, and ongoing staff development.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage and report staffing concerns to nursing leadership.

 

Documentation and Regulatory Compliance

  • Review nursing documentation, electronic medical records, medication administration records, treatment records, and incident reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure timely documentation of assessments, interventions, progress notes, and changes in condition.
  • Assist with preparation for surveys, audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities.
  • Follow federal, state, and local regulations, including applicable long-term care, infection prevention, privacy, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect resident rights and personal health information.

 

Quality and Safety

  • Promote a culture of safety, dignity, respect, and resident-centered care.
  • Investigate and report accidents, injuries, medication errors, abuse or neglect allegations, and other unusual occurrences according to policy.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Monitor infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, isolation precautions, and infection-control procedures.
  • Ensure emergency equipment, supplies, medications, and treatment areas are maintained appropriately.

 

Communication and Customer Service

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, providers, staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote respectful teamwork and collaboration across departments.
  • Participate in shift-to-shift report and ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of employment.
  • Graduation from an approved practical nursing program.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • At least one-two years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, rehabilitation, assisted living, or a similar setting.
  • Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, medication administration, infection prevention, resident rights, and long-term care regulations.
  • Ability to use electronic medical records and standard office equipment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising nursing assistants and licensed nursing staff.
  • Experience working with residents with dementia, behavioral health needs, complex medical conditions, or post-acute rehabilitation needs.
  • Long-term care certification or additional clinical training.

  • Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills.
  • Effective leadership, delegation, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond appropriately in urgent situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist with resident care as required.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts when scheduled.

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. The employee may be required to assist with resident transfers and repositioning in accordance with facility policy and safe-lifting procedures. The position may involve exposure to infectious materials, bodily fluids, medications, cleaning products, and variable noise levels.

Salary : $40 - $45
