What are the responsibilities and job description for the Support Worker position at Community Supported Shelters?
Job Purpose: This position serves the CSS mission by building trusting relationships and modeling positive social skills with our clients. The position's main purpose is to set a social tone that is aligned with organizational values and expectations, while helping program participants transition from street life to community life.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Support:
- Support clients by making two 3 hour visits with their support team per week to Safe Spot Communities to listen to client/community needs, concerns and/or requests.
- Support clients in accessing their Service Navigator by encouraging them to set up appointments, and make their personal goals a priority
- Support clients in working through conflict by encouraging them to speak directly to their fellow community members or by setting up facilitated conversations through the Community Facilitator.
- Support clients getting to appointments in a timely manner or assisting them in rescheduling for a better time.
- Support clients in ensuring the safety and cleanliness of hut and common spaces.
- Support clients by modeling behaviors that support community wellness (i.e. initiative, collaboration, empathy, simplicity)
- Support communities in accessing community resources (propane, food boxes, etc.) through driving support if needed.
Team Support:
- Meet weekly with the support team to work collaboratively on how to handle situations.
- Proactively support team cohesion through practicing CSS values.
- Check and respond to the team message line twice daily.
- Conduct and coordinate Orientations with new clients.
- Support orienting new clients to their Safe Spot Community and connecting them to other clients in the program.
- Attend and assist with the work party coordination.
- Attend position appropriate trainings and team and all-staff meetings.
- Document in Trello relevant client engagements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to write legibly and have basic computer skills and knowledge.
- The ability to listen, reflect back what you heard, and double-check for accuracy. Must know what “empathy” means and be able to offer it to clients and staff alike.
- Being able to actively listen without taking it personally.
- The ability (or the willingness to learn) to de-stress yourself and de-escalate a stressful social situation between others.
- Being able to operate on a schedule, stay focused, and gracefully remove yourself from a situation that is not productive.
- Have the ability to set clear boundaries and communicate clearly to a diverse population with differing states of mental capacity.
- Ability to establish trust and show respect towards clients and staff alike.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Monday-Thursday 6-7 hour shift, exact work schedule TBD by Supervisor.
- Most time will consist of being outdoors or within the common space at Safe Spot communities.
- Air conditioned/heated office space (indoor & outdoor) will be provided for computer, coordinating, and team meetings.
- Some time will be spent in vehicles or on bikes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand, sit, and walk for differing lengths of time
- Ability to work at least two Sundays a month for a 5 hour shift
- Desire to work with vulnerable populations
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
