Job title: Instructional Support: Early Literacy Support Specialist
Reports to: Administrator
Schedule: Part time (30 hours per week)
Compensation: Compensation is hourly and based on experience ($23.58-$30.47)

 

Summary of Position:
The Early Literacy Support Specialist will understand and promote the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Specialist supports, supplements, and extends classroom teaching, and works collaboratively with the Administrator, Guides, and Special Education team to meet the individual needs of the children for both academic success and emotional support.
This role will support students to reach proficiency in K-3 in reading and writing skills.

  • Ability to assist in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, teachers and school community
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information
  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may
also be assigned.

  • Use the School Curriculum and current research based instructional practices that meet both the group and individual needs of students, and follow school & state goals.
  • Provides strategies for student support in reading, writing, working in small groups or 1:1 with identified students.
  • Work with students of various abilities assigned to the classroom. The Support Specialist may be required to participate in meetings, training, and planning cooperatives to fully meet each child’s needs.
  • The support specialist will use various assessment tools/strategies to help inform instructional decisions for individual students.
  • Performs classroom assessments and provides guidance for lesson planning based on assessment data.
  • Tracks students’ growth and progress with supports and observations.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, Guides, SpEd Team, and Administrator concerning the progress of all assigned students.
  • Provides feedback on program effectiveness to Administrator.
  • Participate in a regular professional evaluation process including observations, feedback conferences, and an annual self-evaluation toward goals.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Maintains satisfactory onsite attendance, as defined in school policy and regulations.

Salary : $24 - $30
