Employment Specialist - HVRP Job Description

Full Time, Non-Exempt

Summary

Be part of a team that helps Veterans experiencing homelessness reach their full employment potential! Community Rebuilders is seeking an Employment Specialist in our new Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). The Employment Specialist will be responsible for providing Strengths Based support services to aide in the development and achievement of employment plans. Veterans will be assisted with reintegrating into meaningful employment within the Kent County labor force. The position will help address the complex problems facing homeless Veterans with accessing employment and will develop relationships within the local labor force to promote long term employment success.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Veterans to create strengths based and individualized employment plans
  • Determine program eligibility and maintain participant case files in compliance with contract and agency requirements
  • Provide ongoing case management services, including regular check-ins, referrals to supportive services, and assistance in navigating community resources.
  • Develop and conduct individual and group training and counseling sessions/workshops for Veterans on resume writing, soft skills training, and job preparedness training
  • Assist with employment placement through on-the-job training (OJT), apprenticeship training programs, and direct hire placements
  • Provide job coaching and retention/follow-up services in accordance with DOL regulations; maintain individual employment data during the established time frame
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external service providers to facilitate referrals and collaboration
  • Collect and input relevant data into program databases for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare regular progress reports on program participants' achievements, challenges, and outcomes
  • Identify appropriate and credible resources tailored to the needs and desires of the Veteran
  • Review and submit program documents such as budgets, reimbursements and other required program documentation as outlined in the program contract
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of resources and the referrals provided and make appropriate modifications to ensure the provision of high-quality interventions
  • Develop relationships with community employers, VA staff, and other referral networks
  • Adhere to ethical principles about confidentiality, informed consent, compliance with relevant laws, and agency policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or 3 years of related experience
  • Ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent analytical and problems solving skills
  • Competency is Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Driver’s License

Work Environment

The Employment Specialist primarily works in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machine, file cabinets and printers. This position is required to travel within Kent County to community and/or employment events, off-site trainings or other events as assigned. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, use hands & fingers, reach and lift up to 25lbs unassisted

Pay: From $22.11 per hour
