Community Nursing Services (CNS) is Utah's trusted nonprofit home health and hospice provider, serving patients and families across nine locations statewide since 1928. We're looking for a hands-on fundraising leader to build and grow our philanthropy program alongside a small, close-knit team.

About the Role

This is not a traditional, hands-off executive role. Our philanthropy team is small, and we need a Director who is genuinely willing to get into the details – writing appeals, making calls, sitting across the table from donors, and helping execute events – while also mentoring and developing the team around them. You'll set the strategy, but you'll also help carry it out. If you're looking for a purely administrative, delegate-only leadership role, this isn't it; if you want to build something meaningful with a small team where your own hands-on work makes a visible difference, this is a great fit.

You'll drive growth across major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, and grant strategy, while personally cultivating key donor relationships and developing the people on your team. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt hybrid position based in Salt Lake City.

What We're Looking For

• 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, or development, including major gift experience.
• A proven track record of personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts – you enjoy being in the work, not just overseeing it.
• Experience managing a department budget and fundraising revenue goals.
• Team leadership experience, with a genuine interest in coaching and developing others rather than only directing them.
• Experience with donor management software; Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including grant writing and donor correspondence.
• A builder's mindset – comfortable creating and growing a program, not just maintaining one.

Compensation & Benefits

Total Compensation: $90,000–$120,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Including base and performance incentive.

What You'll Do

• Build and execute CNS's philanthropy strategy – spanning annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and grants – and stay hands-on in the execution, not just the planning.
• Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donor relationships.
• Partner with CNS's executive leadership and Board on donor and corporate partner engagement.
• Lead, coach, and mentor the Philanthropy Manager and department staff – growing their skills while staying involved in the day-to-day work yourself.
• Oversee CNS's flagship fundraising event, Art & Soup, and other philanthropic events, helping execute logistics alongside the team as needed.
• Set direction for grant funding and stay closely involved in proposal development and funder relationships.
• Manage the philanthropy department budget and track fundraising metrics, reporting progress to leadership and the Board.
• Help build a planned giving/legacy society program to strengthen CNS's long-term sustainability.
• Represent CNS at community and donor events as a genuine, engaged ambassador for the organization.

Growth Path

• CNS's philanthropy program is growing, and we're building this role with that growth in mind. As fundraising responsibilities and department size expand, this position has the potential to progress from a Director of Philanthropy role into VP of Philanthropy role, with broader strategic and supervisory responsibility.

Physical Requirements & Travel

• Ability to work in a standard office environment, including extended periods of sitting, computer use, and phone/video communication.
• Occasional local travel required to meet with donors, attend community events, and visit other CNS office locations as needed. Travel is minimal, but this role is not a fully desk-bound position – some time out of the office should be expected.
• Ability to assist with event setup/teardown logistics for fundraising events such as Art & Soup.
