What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at COMMUNITY MISSIONS OF NIAGARA FRONTIER INC.?
Join our Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) team as a Peer Support Specialist! In this role, you’ll provide peer support and social engagement activities for young adults (ages 18–24) in our Transitional and Rapid Rehousing programs. You’ll help participants build life and daily living skills, support case managers with client documentation, and ensure smooth communication and recordkeeping. This position also shares On-Call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer support and engagement activities for youth in housing programs
- Assist with referrals, admission assessments, and intake processes
- Facilitate life skills and daily living skills sessions
- Support Case Managers with client progress tracking and documentation
- Maintain accurate records and communication logs
- Participate in On-Call rotation as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred
- Must have lived experience with homelessness or other marginalized life experiences
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Valid NYS driver’s license (infraction-free)
- Red Cross training (provided by agency)
- Experience working with transition-age youth (18–24) or homeless populations
- Strong computer and communication skills
- Skilled in conflict resolution and teamwork
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
