Job Summary
Community Initiatives is an Oakland-based nonprofit service organization providing over 150 nonprofit projects with fiscal sponsorship services including tax-exemption, accounting and financial oversight, risk management and insurance, legal compliance, grants management, payroll, and human resource services. Our fiscally sponsored projects (FSPs) represent all nonprofit sectors––arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and public affairs. While many of our projects are in the San Francisco Bay Area, others operate in various states and international locations.
Great opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in HR Operations! The HR Intern is a temporary position responsible for providing administrative support to the HR team. Special projects include updating Community Initiatives’ HRIS, maintaining employee files, and general record keeping. This is a hybrid role working 10-15 hours/week for up to three months, $25/hour. Downtown Oakland – 12th Street BART.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Categorize and upload digital HR records into HRIS
- Review and audit employee files to identify missing or incomplete documentation
- Scan hard copy I-9s and background check results for active staff
- Assist in updating and organizing employee personnel records
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Support HR team with general administrative tasks and special projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Understands the importance of handling confidential information
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Basic knowledge/experience in HR desirable
- Familiarity with HR Information System desirable – familiarity with Paylocity a plus
