Position Description:
The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders. This role focuses on the holistic assessment, monitoring, and treatment of patients within a therapeutic environment, ensuring safety and emotional stability. The RN acts as a critical link in the interdisciplinary team, coordinating medical and psychiatric needs to improve patient outcomes.
Schedule: Full Time or Coverage One Day Per Week
Requirements:- Medication Management: Administer medications, perform medication reconciliation, and accurately document entries in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- Treatment Planning: Collaborate with providers to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care associated with medication management needs that meet medical necessity and regulatory standards.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate patient reports associated with addressing any medication management needs that have been addressed in accordance with state and federal regulations, such as HIPAA and Kentucky Administrative Regulations.
Qualifications:
Education & Training and/or Experience:
- Minimum Education: Associate's degree in nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Licensure: Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kentucky (or a valid compact licensure).
- Experience: Prior professional experience in a behavioral health or psychiatric setting is preferred.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or crisis prevention certification (e.g., Handle with Care) may be preferred or required by specific facilities.
- Required Skills: Strong critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to function effectively in high-stress or emergencies.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Kentucky Medicaid regulations and standards for Behavioral Health Services Organizations (BHSOs) is highly beneficial.
Language/Math/Reasoning Ability:
- Communication: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and write clear, professional daily progress notes and behavioral observations.
- Synthesis: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to participants, families, and clinical supervisors.
- Logic: Ability to apply common sense and diagnostic reasoning to ensure physical ailments aren't misattributed to a participant's psychiatric condition ("diagnostic overshadowing").
- Math: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and perform basic operations involving units of American money.
Licenses, Police Check, Registration, and Certifications:
- Driver's License: Current Valid Kentucky Driver's License and maintains proper vehicle insurance coverage.
- Background Clearances: Acceptable checks from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC); the Kentucky Nurse Aid Registry (KNAR); and the Central Registry (CAN).
- Training: Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and CORE training from the College of Direct Support.
- Health & Safety: Maintain TB screening and pass drug screenings upon hire and randomly thereafter.
