FLSA Status: Non-Exempt | Part-Time 15 hours per week 12pm - 5pm Mon-Wed
Position Summary
The Youth & Community Activities Coordinator is responsible for coordinating after-school programs and supporting community engagement activities across two CHOC-affiliated affordable housing communities. This role involves assisting youth with academic support, digital literacy, and providing enriching, skill-building activities. Additionally, this position will support the Services Coordinator in planning and facilitating community-wide events and programs that foster connection, wellness, and participation among residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate after-school programs with a focus on homework assistance, enrichment, and life skills development.
- Promote computer and internet literacy among youth residents through guided instruction.
- Collaborate with the Services Coordinator to design and execute a monthly calendar of community activities.
- Support and organize community events tailored to residents’ needs and interests.
- Conduct regular outreach to increase participation from youth and recruit adult volunteers.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including student attendance, program usage, and progress tracking.
- Coordinate purchasing and inventory of supplies and program materials with supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and guidance to volunteers supporting program activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support departmental goals and resident well-being.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily at program sites and community spaces within housing communities.
- May require occasional local travel between sites.
- Will occasionally be required to work outdoors during events or community activities.
- Exposure to noise typical in group settings involving children or youth.
- Must be comfortable working in multicultural and socioeconomically diverse environments.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of supplies or equipment.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching during program set-up, facilitation, and clean-up.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while assisting with homework or administrative tasks.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and to interact with program participants.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Prior experience working with low-income youth and families in a classroom, group, or recreational setting.
- Proven ability to lead and manage youth programs and build positive relationships with participants.
- Experience in community building and outreach is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
