JOB TITLE: Finance Director
DEPARTMENT: Finance
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
FLSA STATUS: Exempt — Executive/Professional
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization, ensuring fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial sustainability. This role provides strategic financial leadership to the executive team and Board of Directors while managing day-to-day accounting and finance functions. The Finance Director plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the organization by ensuring sound financial management across all programs and funding sources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting functions and fiscal operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fee schedule billing and collections, purchasing and inventory control, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis to the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Responsible for timely and accurate submission of annual Medicare Cost Report.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and reserve funds to ensure financial stability
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies and procedures

Budgeting & Planning

  • Lead the annual budget development process in collaboration with the CEO and department leaders
  • Monitor budget performance throughout the year and provide variance analysis and recommendations
  • Support strategic planning efforts with financial modeling and forecasting

Grant & Federal Funding Compliance

  • Oversee financial management and reporting for all federal, state, and private grants, including FQHC/Section 330 funding where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) for federal awards
  • Collaborate with program staff on grant budgets, reporting requirements, and drawdowns
  • Serve as primary financial contact for funding agencies and auditors

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate and manage the annual independent audit process
  • Prepare all audit schedules and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements including IRS Form 990 preparation
  • Monitor changes in nonprofit financial regulations and ensure organizational compliance

Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise and develop finance department staff
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team
  • Present financial information to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee in a clear and accessible manner
  • Participate in senior leadership meetings and contribute to organizational decision-making

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive financial management experience required
  • Experience in nonprofit financial management strongly preferred
  • Experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or community health centers highly desirable
  • Experience with federal grant management and Uniform Guidance preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP
  • Familiarity with FQHC cost reporting, UDS reporting, and sliding fee scale programs preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial audiences
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with the Board of Directors

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office environment
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for Board meetings or special events
  • Some local travel may be required

COMPENSATION

  • Salary commensurate with experience. Range: $100,000 - $133,500.
  • Competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental, vision, paid time off, and retirement plan
