Dental Referral Specialist

Pay Range: $16.50-20 per hour | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Are you organized, detail-oriented, and great at helping people navigate the healthcare system? Do you enjoy coordinating appointments, working with patients and healthcare teams, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks? We’re looking for a Dental Referral Specialist to join our Patient Access Center team!

In this role, you’ll help coordinate dental referrals and prior authorizations, connect patients with outside providers and services, and make sure referrals are followed through to completion. You’ll work closely with dental care teams, dentists, patients, insurance companies, and community referral partners to help make the referral process as smooth as possible.

What you’ll do

• Coordinate incoming and outgoing dental referrals with outside agencies and internal CHC teams.
• Schedule referred appointments and communicate appointment information to patients.
• Track referrals from start to finish and follow up to make sure patients are connected to care.
• Obtain reports and other information from outside providers and ensure documentation is added to the patient’s chart.
• Initiate and follow up on dental prior authorizations based on insurance coverage or CHC sliding fee scale requirements.
• Work with insurance information and referral requirements to help patients access needed services.
• Serve as a resource for patients, CHC staff, and referral partners regarding referral procedures and processes.
• Review incoming messages and care coordination documents in EPIC and route information to the appropriate team.
• Use EPIC to verify insurance, demographic information, referral details, and other patient information.
• Document referral activity, patient communication, authorizations, and other pertinent information accurately in the patient record.
• Provide professional and efficient call center support in a high-volume healthcare environment.
• Use AMN or other approved translation services to assist patients who have limited English proficiency.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with dental teams, internal CHC departments, and outside referral agencies.
• Manage multiple referrals, authorizations, and patient needs while staying organized and following established processes.

What we’re looking for

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in healthcare, dental, medical office, scheduling, referrals, insurance, or a call center environment is preferred.
• Experience working with an electronic health record, such as EPIC, is a plus.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Excellent organization and follow-up skills.
• Someone who is comfortable multitasking and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Someone who is detail-oriented and takes pride in accurate work.
• A dependable team player who enjoys helping patients and working with a variety of healthcare professionals and community partners.
